On Friday, Feburary 11th, Stephanie came home to her apartment to find a computer with a rose over top. There was a photograph from 5 years ago when they'd first started dating that had a caption "Love for a Lifetime" and there was also a note which read, "Turn on the computer and press play." The video was a message Tyler had previously recorded saying that this was going to be a surprise date night, which involved a little bit of a scavenger hunt. Stephanie's first "instructions" were to get ready, and go to the spot where they'd first met (The Adler Journalism Building) at 5 p.m.
Once Stephanie arrived to the Journalism Building, there were two large, black boxes stacked with a rose and another note on top. This note read, "Open the bottom box first." In the bottom box was a scrapbook filled with 8 letters and photographs from different times during their dating relationship. In each of the letters, Tyler wrote about how their relationship had grown, their favorite memories, and how he'd seen God's work in both of their lives. Each of the letters also alligned with a passage of scripture, and in the top box Stephanie found a Bible which had each corresponding verse marked out.
As Stephanie spent time reading through all the letters and verses, she found 8 little clips of paper tucked into the Bible which pieced together to read: "Love for a Lifetime: Meet me a Joesph's at 6 p.m."
At 6 o'clock, Stephanie arrived at Joesph's in downtown Iowa City, and was escorted by the waiter to a private dinner table in the candlelit restaurant. Their table was surrounded by ceiling-to-floor curtains and had roses and candles everywhere. As soon as Stephanie arrived Tyler dropped to one knee, pulled out the ring and asked Stephanie to marry him.
She said YES!
